James 5:15 mentions the ‘prayer of faith’ that saves the sick. Those who pray this prayer must have a confidence within themselves that enables them to pray this prayer. How do they get this confidence? John A. Dowie, whose life we have been looking at this week in studying the history of divine healing, suddenly learned how to pray this prayer when a plague had killed 40 members of his congregation. In a moment of time, he crossed the line from praying prayers of comfort for the sick, ‘if it be Thy will’ prayers for the sick, to praying the prayer of faith for the sick. From that moment he never lost another member of his congregation. Confidence. Those who will pray the prayer of faith must have the confidence of what God’s will is in the matter of physical healing for the body. God’s Word makes God’s Will plain in this matter. Today we will look at the source of the confidence that came to Dowie which enabled him to pray the prayer of faith that stayed a plague.
