Today we will look at the last two stages on the walk to freedom from depression: “Overcoming:” and “The Holy Spirit Will Seal Your Freedom”. Pat did not cover this in the audio sermons, so I will be reading from a manual made from CD’s that I transcribed for him. It won’t ‘sound’ like Pat, but it will be his words. Freedom from depression is GUARANTEED to you! If you don’t deal with this, please study these message and learn to help someone else who does.
(See the two previous postings with notes covering the first 5 steps, also the radio broadcast links to programs.)
The first 5 steps:
1) Spiritual understanding of depression.
2) Acknowledge any issues that come up as you are getting free…any other bondages or problems that help keep the depression on you. You will get set free of them also if you acknowledge them and start standing against them.
3) The Word will change your reality….you will stop looking at yourself from the natural standpoint and begin to see yourself as God sees you.
4) Resist the oppression…as your reality begins to become more God-oriented, you will be equipped with the tools to resist depression.
5) Fight the good fight….it will be a fight, but it is a good fight, a fight that GUARANTEES YOU FREEDOM.
You begin to get the sweet taste of victory, but still the feeling haunts you that you are going to slide way back to the beginning. That is a lie. The truth sets you free and once you have five or six scriptures from the Word of God, you cannot go back the way you were. You CANNOT go back the way you were!
Your deliverance is all about a revelation of Jesus Christ today and knowing that He is resurrected from the dead, that is the essence of all this stuff. Once you know that Jesus wants to set you free, that He has already finished the work that will accomplish it…you CANNOT GO BACK ON THAT! You’d have to deny Jesus Christ completely.
See, the truth will set you free and lies will keep you in bondage.
Jesus loves overcomers. I say that again and again.
Jesus was THE Overcomer.
When you think about the Garden of Gethsemane and what He faced there, you are talking about an overcomer of the first order.
You are following in His footsteps.
In Revelation He talks about them everywhere.
Why does Jesus like overcomers
Because you have been through a huge battle and you have won just exactly the same way that He has won: “It is written”, and you have destroyed the works of the enemy, 1 John 3:8.
1 John 3:8
The reason the Son of God appeared
was to destroy the devil’s work.
Jesus was manifested to destroy the works of the enemy and now you are doing that.
All of Heaven loves that…especially in people that have been beaten up in this area….bipolar, depression, suicidal stuff going on and have had a miserable life.
When you start doing this, defeating devils, you are really pleasing Heaven, pleasing Jesus, pleasing God and you are bringing glory to our Father. These are the works He was talking about.
The Word has delivered you just like it said it would in Romans 1:16, going back to where we started: the Gospel is the power of God unto salvation to everyone who believes It.
The power is in the Word of God.
We have been ministering the Word of God to you.
You have taken it and acted upon it, James 1:22.
James 1:22: Act on the Word…this is a simple definition of faith.
Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.
Faith without corresponding action is dead. People who say they believe in healing and deliverance, but don’t preach it in their churches on a regular basis, then they do not really believe it. They are just giving lip service.
People ask me all the time: “How do I know I am in faith?”
You act! If you don’t, you aren’t in faith…..period!
It’s very simple, there is nothing complicated about it.
Faith with action IS faith.
I heard Curry Blake talk about it once and I believe that it is absolutely true: “If you understand who you are as a new creation and you act on it, you will drive most of your issues out of your life.”
If you understand what happened when you became a new creation and you will apply to your life what happened there, act on it and renew your mind, you wouldn’t be in the position you are in now. What you are doing now is going back and renewing your mind to what happened when you were saved.
2 Cor. 5:17: As a believer, you are a new creature in Christ.
So that if any one is in Christ, he is a new creature: the old state of things has passed away; a new state of things has come into existence.
Say this: “Thank you, Jesus, I am a new creation. All things have become new.”
I have talked to people that have come out of depression, etc. and that is what they say:
“I have changed my complete perspective on how I view everything.”
It’s like looking at the world with totally new glasses.
When you line up to the Word of God, it will change you. It will change the way you think. It will change the way you act. It will renew you completely. And that isn’t in just one area.
7)The Holy Spirit will seal your freedom.
What do I mean, ‘seal’?
When you gave your life to Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit sealed that at some point. When did He seal that? When you proclaimed according to Romans 10:9&10, believing with your heart and saying with your mouth that Jesus was your Lord and Savior, that is a seal.
People who have been saved awhile, if I ask them if they are saved, they laugh at me and say: “What are you talking about, I know I am saved.”
It is beyond doubt with them, a fact of life. It is a sealed matter in their life.
I tell them: When you get to the same place about your health, you will seal that also.
When people are saved there is no feeling that gives evidence of it, but they ‘know’ that they are….their spirit knows that they are saved. They didn’t do that, the Holy Spirit did that in them. This is the miraculous power of the Holy Spirit in their life sealing them, as it says in Ephesians 1:13:
In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise.
Believe with your heart, confess with your mouth….Romans 10:9&10.
That is the same principle Jesus talked about in Mark 11:23: if you believe with your heart and confess with your mouth you will have whatever you say.
It is a principle, like gravity. You can deny it, but if you jump off a building, you will experience gravity. It is just there and there is nothing you can do about it, and these principles of believing with your heart and saying with your mouth are just there.
Once you walk in this principle, the truth that you are believing and confessing is ‘sealed’.
So what you need to say is: “Thank you, Jesus, I am free from this depression. I am free from this.”
And after awhile, it may take a month or so, the Holy Spirit will seal that freedom in you. It is getting your spirit to a place where you ‘know’ it, just like you know you are saved.
You will know if you are off somewhere, if you are applying a different principle in trying to get your healing or deliverance manifested. You can’t apply a different principle to being healed or delivered than you did to being saved and expect to see any results.
Any other principle, and you are not on the Word of God.
The Word of God is very clear, these principles act the same in all circumstances, and if you think they don’t, you’re just off. The Word of God isn’t off. Let God be true and every many a liar. You are off. You haven’t lined it up properly.
People will ask: “Well, how do I get there (meaning healed/delivered)?”
Exactly the same way you got saved: you believe with your heart and confess with your mouth.
I also spend a lot of time with people in John 14:27, walking in peace and joy.
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
People who have come out of these situations usually have no concept of what peace, and joy is all about.
I ask them a question: How do you get peace from Jesus?
Most Christians wouldn’t answer this question properly. It is a principle again.
THE WAY YOU GET THINGS FROM JESUS IS BY ACCEPTING THEM. There is no other way. Everything in the New Testament is received by accepting the Finished Work of Christ.
Do you have peace right now? No, but you are accepting it right now. It is the same principle as the Finished Work. The first thing you do is accept it, then you know you have it, and then you walk it out.
I’ve done this with people regarding their peace and it comes very quickly to them now. Many say, “I am experiencing peace now for the first time in twenty years.”
I say: Listen, you spoke it with your mouth, you accepted it, you said I am walking in this peace, thank you Jesus that I have it. You are not saying, ‘Jesus give me peace’, but ‘Jesus, I accept Your peace’.
That is the problem we have. If I ask most Christians how do you get peace from Jesus, they say: “I ask Him for it.”
Then they say, “Oh, I forgot, I have it already.”
You accept it.
You walk it out.
You proclaim that you have it.
Phil. 4:13: You can do all things, never “I can’t”, when you lose a battle, pick yourself up and go on.
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
1 John 5:18: the wicked one touches him not.
We know that whoever is born of God sins not; but he that is begotten of God keeps himself, and that wicked one touches him not.
You have cleaned some things out of your life and it is difficult for demons to touch you when you are clean. You are fighting, you are getting sanctified before God, that is a good place to be.
Acts 17:28:Living in him, having victory in Him.
For in him we live, and move, and have our being….
Pray this prayer:
Father, we thank you for the Victory that Jesus got for us. This Victory is for every single Christian. Whosoever will come and say: Enough is enough. I have had enough of this oppression in my life. I understand now that Jesus bought this for me already, that He paid the price, He has the victory. All I have to do is connect with Him. Agree with Him, accept what Heaven has done for me. Accept the fact that Jesus has given me authority over this. And if it takes me three months or six months, I will do whatever it takes — I WILL NOT HAVE THIS OPPRESSION ON ME ANY MORE IN JESUS’ NAME!
