Paul’s insight given by revelation of the Spirit, is a ‘gold mine’ from which we can glean many nuggets. This allegory told in Galatians 4 is one of them. Each verse, each phrase, each word can be ‘opened’ to reveal the Great Truths of Redemption and Life in Christ, NOW!
PRACTICAL….that is always my goal, the daily application of Redemptive Truths to your life. Heavenly realities must produce earthly practicalities, or the Gospel is only HALF effective.
The Two’s of Galatians 4:
Two women: Sarah & Hagar
Two covenants: Promise & Law
Two cities: Earthly Jerusalem & Heavenly Jerusalem
Two sons: Ishmael & Isaac
Two mounts: Sinai & Zion
Two realms: flesh & Spirit
Two spirits: bondage & freedom
What is an allegory?
A story, poem or picture than can be interpreted to reveal a hidden meaning; a story with two meanings.
In this allegory, Paul is explaining the spiritual truths which are represented by these two’s.
He is wanting to get the truth across to the Galatians, that what was being taught them by the Judaizers – that they must keep the law of Moses in addition to receiving Christ, in order to be fully saved – would lead them back into the slavery that is represented by the woman, Hagar.
In Christ, you are born from above, the life in the Spirit you have been brought into is comparable to the free woman, Sarah.
Looking at the list representing your life in Christ:
born of the free woman, the Heavenly Jerusalem
possessor of the Son of Promise: Christ
born of the Promise given to Abraham
access to the heavenly Mt. Zion
possessing the ‘set free’ life
alive in the Spirit.
“Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ has set us free and be not entangled again in the yoke of bondage,” Gal. 5:1
Can you ignore your earthly situations right now and see totally in the Spirit….the realities above which are true of you if you are in Christ?
We live the higher life by focusing on the Higher Truths…..confess these truths for awhile, bring them before your mind several times a day:
I am born of the free woman, the Heavenly Jerusalem.
I have access to the heavenly Mt, Zion.
I am a son of God, born of the Promise made to Abraham.
I am a possessor of the ‘set free’ life.
I am a possessor of the Son of Promise, Christ Jesus.
Think about the ‘I am’s’ of your life.
Spiritually, these all went into affect the moment you were born again, so you aren’t confessing anything to MAKE IT SO, you are making a statement about WHAT IS SO.
See yourself AS A SPIRIT….THAT IS THE PART OF YOU WHERE THESE THINGS ARE A REALITY.
Now your mind must be educated to the new FACTS OF LIFE.
You will see the change in your EVERY DAY WALK, if you will do this…..GUARANTEED!
