Some may look at the title or subtitle of this blog, and wonder: “What in the world do these postings have to do with spreading the Pentecostal fire?”
I seem to have ‘threads’ that run through my mind and connect all kinds of seemingly unrelated topics. If you look underneath all the diversity, there is one ‘sound’ that goes out from all of them: the ‘fire to fight’ oppression.
Jesus Christ, the Word of the Living God, came into the World, to heal all that were ‘oppressed of the devil’. The wonderful Baptism of the Holy Ghost with its Pentecostal distinctive of speaking with other tongues, was given to equip believers to carry out, with power, this same commission.
In all earthly dictators, oppressive governments, sicknesses, violence, calamities, I see the Oppressor at work.
John the Baptist said of Jesus, “He will baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire”.
The ‘fire’ of Pentecost rages against oppression, just like the ‘fire’ of freedom burning in the hearts of people caused them to rise up and become ‘resistance fighters’ when dictators ruled a nation.
In the long run, the fire in the bosom of resistance fighters and the Holy Ghost fire in the bosom of believers both have the goal of bringing freedom to the captive.
